There’s something about doing her hair that teac There’s something about doing her hair that teaches us both something. She’s learning how to sit still, how to be gentle, how to look in the mirror and admire herself when we’re done. And I’m learning how to be gentle with her hair (she’s tenderheaded), and how to plan styles that actually work best for her different hair lengths. That’s what the last year and a half of motherhood has been: us learning each other. Those sleepy newborn cuddling days have grown into big toddler energy. And somehow, I’m still growing right along with her. And here we are now, celebrating my second Mother’s Day. I’m still learning. still growing. still tryna be the best mother I can be. I feel her love so that’s all I need to let me know that I’m doing a great job as her mama. Happy Mother’s Day to all the mamas doing the best they can, learning as they go, and surviving the newborn and toddler trenches.

So you’re thinking about coloring your Sisterloc So you’re thinking about coloring your Sisterlocks? This is what you should know before you go. 🌈🌈🌈 Also sharing some questions I get a lot about my color: 🖍️Did I do it myself? No, I went to a professional cosmetologist who also did loc maintenance and loc coloring. 🖍️How to find a stylist? Word of mouth, ask around, ask your loctician, ask the people you run into who have colored locs (at church, out running errands, etc), ask your friends with colored locs. I actually asked my dentist receptionist, who had colored locs. Make sure they specifically know how to color locd hair. 🖍️What to ask your loctician before getting color? Is your hair mature enough, strong enough, and healthy enough to get color. Weak, damaged locs are more likely to experience breakage. 🖍️How did I know what color I wanted? I researched for months and found example pictures of what I wanted so I could show the colorist. Then in my color consultation we looked at the color samples together to match up the colors as closely to the picture. 🖍️What colors did I get? I don’t know the name of the color brand, but you can see the color samples in the video. I got Full, Tri-Color with colors 8C, 5C, and she touched up the blonde pieces I already had. 🌈🌈🌈 ❓Will you be getting your locs colored soon? What other questions about loc color do you have?

Before that, I was switching it up between my Afro, braids, twists, every protective style you can think of.
